I’ve been a reader my whole life. Books were my escape, my education, and my joy. Naturally, I thought writing them would feel just as magical.
And for a while, it did.
I loved the creative process—building worlds, crafting characters, finding that perfect turn of phrase. But things changed the moment I tried to do something with my writing.
That’s when I learned what no one warns you about: being a writer and being an author are two different jobs.
Writing is creative and personal. Being an author? That’s a business.
I found myself researching algorithms instead of myths. I was learning how to schedule Instagram Reels, build a brand, and choose an email platform—all while trying to figure out whether I needed an LLC.
The writing time I loved was getting buried under everything else.
There was always more to learn: Marketing. Social media. Audience strategy. Business tools. Time management.
I hadn’t stopped loving writing. I’d just run out of space for it.
As I looked around, I realized I wasn’t alone. So many writers were in the same boat—confused, burned out, and trying to navigate the “author” side without losing what they loved about being a writer.
That’s when I made a decision.
If I was going to spend hours learning how to build a business around writing, I might as well turn around and share the map.
The Author’s Online Playbook was born from that idea: make the non-writing side easier.
I created this platform to give authors the tools, shortcuts, and clarity I wished I had earlier. It’s a place for practical marketing tips, time-saving strategies, and honest insights from someone still figuring it out too.
If writing is your passion but the rest feels overwhelming—you’re not alone. You’ll find resources here to help you manage the business side faster and with more confidence, so you can get back to what you came here to do: write.
Your time matters.
Let’s make the most of it.
After years—really, a lifetime—of reading everything I could get my hands on, I was sure writing would feel just as magical.
I’ve always loved books and stories. I love the sentences that make you stop mid-page and think, Wow. So naturally, I thought writing would feel the same.
It did—for a while.
Then I tried to do something with my writing.
No one tells you this: being a writer and being an author are not the same. Writing is creative. Being an author means running a business.
Suddenly, I wasn’t researching mythical legends or world-building anymore. I was looking up Facebook algorithm aids. Instead of dreaming up plot twists, I was figuring out how to make Instagram Reels perform better—or whether I needed an LLC. Choosing an email platform took more time than outlining a book.
Bit by bit, writing time disappeared.
Marketing. Social media. Time management. Business tools. Even just understanding my audience took more hours than I’d imagined. The joy I found in writing slipped away—not because I stopped loving it, but because I never had time for it.
I knew I wasn’t the only one.
Everywhere I looked, other writers were stuck in the same place—overwhelmed, unsure, and stretched thin trying to be an author when all they wanted to do was write.
So, I made a decision.
If I was going to spend this much time figuring it all out, I might as well share what I learn. That way, others can get through the hard parts faster—and maybe even enjoy them a little more.
That’s why I created The Author’s Online Playbook. To make the business side of writing simpler. To offer tools that save time, strategies that actually work, and real-world tips from someone still in the trenches with you.
This space is for writers who want to write—without getting swallowed by everything else. You’ll find advice on marketing, social media, business, time management, writing craft, and more. Each guide helps you spend less time stuck and more time writing.
Because your time matters.
And it’s time to reclaim it.

About the Author
Ami has a face for radio, a voice for print, and a brain full of publishing hacks. She’s probably reading memes, drinking Dr Pepper, or wondering how her to-do list became self-aware. She started The Author’s Online Playbook when she got tired of Googling “how to market a book without selling your soul or becoming a full-time influencer.” Now she helps writers skip the burnout. And get back to what they actually love—writing.
